Tips for poison prevention:
  • Re-close medicines and other potentially hazardous products if interrupted during use as well as immediately after use.
  • Read the product labels thoroughly and carefully before each use and follow the directions exactly.
  • Keep important phone numbers on hand like the Poison Control Center (1-800-222-1222) or Public Safety if you are on campus (209-946-2537).
According to the HRSA, did you know:
  • More than 80% of reported events related to poison are accidents.
  • 50.7 percent of possible poisonings occur in children 6 or younger, but more than 70% of all poisoning deaths occur in adults from 20-59.
  • Most poison reports involve common household products like medicines, cleaning products and personal care products.
  • More than 70% of poisonings are taken care of by phone.
