Professional Development for Educators

We know as a teacher, you're always busy - planning lessons, grading papers, and dealing with kids and their problems.  That's why we aim to provide engaging and fun professional development that fits into and around your schedule.  From travel studies to independent practicums to online offerings, we have something that's sure to inform and inspire.  Whether you're cramming over the weekends or keeping busy during the summer, you'll find something here for you.

Our courses are designed to meet the professional development needs of educators for career and salary advancement.  These classes are not applicable to a degree at Pacific but can be transferred at the discretion of your institution.  District approval is recommended before enrolling.  An official transcript is available from Pacific upon successful completion of coursework.

 

Online (VESI) Courses

These professional development courses for educators provide interactive instruction on strategies for teaching students with special behavioral and learning needs.

These computer-based courses are all online and easy to use.

Each course instructor is available for professional or technical questions, via email or from a toll-free phone number.

This program is offered cooperatively by Pacific’s Center for Professional and Continuing Education and Virtual Education Software, Inc.

Sandbox Courses

University of the Pacific's Center for Professional and Continuing Education and Teacher Sandbox have partnered to offer online coursework in the area of technology integration. The Teacher Sandbox courses are project-based, self-paced courses in which participants will apply their learning in a culminating project.  You will leave this class prepared with practical ideas that you will be able to immediately apply in your classroom.

Curriculum Enrichment- Independent Practicum Courses

Independent Practicum Courses allow you to earn professional development credits from University of the Pacific while meeting  your needs for career and salary advancement. 

Earn anywhere from 1-6 professional development credits per practicum!

Sources of curriculum development activities may include ideas modified from books and workshops.
Topics may include:

INET4Learning

3 Graduate Level Professional Development Units

In these courses you will learn how to use the internet as a curriculum development tool. Both the Internet beginner and experienced user will benefit. The focus is on learning to access the mass of information about the subject of your choice and then applying it to your classroom. You will visit selected web sites, Internet programs and services, and explore other Internet resources to help develop curriculum. You conduct your own web research to find additional resources to meet your specific needs. You will learn how to exchange ideas with others in your field of interest using services like learning communities, instant messaging, and more. Finally you will develop a lesson plan/project to fit your students' needs.

You can enroll at anytime, take up to six months to complete. Over 200 topics to choose from!
