Prospective Students
Thank you for your interest in the Conservatory of Music at the University of the Pacific. We are primarily an undergraduate institution with approximately 225 students pursuing a wide variety of degrees in performance (all orchestral instruments, piano and voice), jazz studies, music education, music therapy, music management, music history, and music composition. A number of students are pursuing dual degrees, one in music and one outside of music (for example Speech Pathology and Music). We will work with you to craft a path towards graduation that reflects your personal goals. With a tremendous array of degree choices, we offer much more than is typical for an institution of our size, and that means at Pacific, you can find pathways to a life in music that you might not have considered.
We would be happy to discuss your interest in music and how to apply for admission to the Conservatory. While our recent graduates have pursued many different professional directions, that only begins to scratch the surface of the many opportunities offered through an education in music, and of the value of music studies.
If you are ready to begin the process, apply to the University of Pacific and declare that you want to be a music major. All of our applicants, regardless of their degree objective, must audition on an instrument or voice. If you have questions about the audition process or requirements, contact Andrea Strickland, Coordinator of Student Services. You might also want to watch our YouTube channel, where students describe the audition process and give you tips on how to prepare. We also highly recommend a visit campus and campus tour.
Studying music is exciting, rewarding, exhilarating, maddening, demanding, tremendously satisfying, and one of the best choices you'll ever make. We hope to hear from you soon!
