Two Graduates Tell . . .
Leah Thayer, a recent graduate, sent School of International Studies the following email message from Africa, on October 5, 1998:
At this point I have two contracts set up for t his year. Between now and Christmas I will be working here in Nairobi
with the World Food Program on more effectively targeting food aid to the
neediest
in
southern Sudan. It's great, because much of what I'll be doing is
just what I did for my thesis. And assuming that this whole continent doesn't blow up in the near future (it might, according to the local press), I'll get to do some fieldwork in the Sudan, which should be fascinating.
After Christmas, I'll move over to Kampala and work with USAID and the Ugandan Ministry of Health on establishing a national Quality of
Healthcare program. I'm really excited about both living in Uganda and working on this project.
Jack Delman - The career of graduate Jack Delman, is proof that most people do not stay in one position for the rest of their lives! After spending time in the Peace Corps in Micronesia, he received teaching credentials and headed to Latin America to teach Social Sciences. Jack reports:
In 1993 I was offered the job of Superintendent of an American International School (Lincoln) in San Jose Costa Rica.
Lincoln School is the most prestigious school in the country - an SACS
accredited Pre-K through 12 school with 1500 students, including the sons and daughters of Presidents and Nobel Peace Prize winners. The last President of Costa Rica is a graduate of Lincoln.
Jack currently holds positions as: President of the Association of
American Schools of Central America; Adviser to the Minister of Education
in Costa Rica; and, Member - Board of Directors, Association for the
Advancement of International Education. |
