The 21st century presents Americans with an unprecedented opportunity. We alone are the first global superpower in the first truly global century. Our economy is the most productive, our military forces the strongest, and because of this success, our responsibilities are the greatest. Never before has this country been confronted with such opportunities for global leadership. Never before have we faced such intractable problems. The times call out for a new sort of education, a global education for sophisticated, responsible global leaders.
We believe such leaders must acquire an in-depth understanding of our own culture and the world's other peoples. They must understand the challenges and opportunities which face all of us: the sustaining of the international economy, a decent and peaceful world order and, a viable environment. At SIS, we deliberately integrate the study of politics with that of business and economics, the study of science and the environment with that of geography, history and culture. We send all of our students out into the world, the better to help lead it when they leave us. We carry on the Pacific tradition of pioneering a new sort of education for new times.
