Careers in International Affairs

All research tells us this:
no matter what field you enter, in all likelihood you will not work for one company, or even in one field, for the rest of your life. In the 21st century, most college graduates will not only have many different jobs in their lifetimes, but many different careers as well. The experiences of School of International Studies graduates bear this out.

Many of the jobs you might be offered haven't even been created yet because the world is changing so rapidly. Just think of the Internet - how many people were making a living on the World Wide Web even ten years ago?

In the international world, things are changing just as rapidly as they are in high-tech industries, and we want to be sure you can take advantage of those changes.

Our core program emphasizes direct international experience (since we require study abroad in one of 200 programs in 70 countries), foreign language competency, skills in cross-cultural communication and research, knowledge of economics and politics, and of world history and geography.

We emphasize the development of writing skills and the ability to make oral arguments and public presentations. In each of our majors, we foster the ability to analyze international phenomena and complex cross-cultural situations.
