(Former Speaker of the
US House of Representatives) Tip O’Neill famously claimed that “all
politics are local.” Professor Batto thinks that all politics are
domestic and to understand what is going on in the world, you must
first understand the domestic politics of each country. He also has a
(friendly) running feud with the other faculty members over whether
there really is such a thing as “culture.”
A passionate baseball fan, Professor Batto measures his teaching
success by whether his students cause him more frustration and
heartache than the Texas Rangers and Brother Elephants. This
operationalization, while of questionable validity, practically
ensures that he believes he is an excellent teacher! |
